Contact Lenses And Marked Cards Used To Pull Off a High Stakes Scam In Southwest China

Four criminals in southwest China have been arrested in connection to a poker scam involving contact lenses that left one unsuspecting player, known only as Feng, £8,150 out of pocket.

The scam was carried out by one member of the gang wearing the lenses that revealed subtle card markings to help establish what their target was holding. This information was then relayed to the other scammers at the table through a series of hand signals. In order to get a raise from their mark, the gang members promised to generate trade for their victim’s firm, a pesticide company, thus maximising their profits.

When the duped Feng eventually folded for good, he had been taken for £1,164 in cash plus a further £6,984 in debt to the gang, having borrowed to stay in the game. After the game, Feng, who also claimed to have been drugged, reported his suspicions to local police officers who launched an immediate investigation. The suspects were later found sleeping at a nearby hotel in possession of 30 decks of marked cards and a set of contact lenses.

These four members have since been arrested but as yet remain un-charged despite having admitted to enticing Feng into the game. To make matter worse for Feng, he too was arrested for gambling.
