The 28-year-old man, who listed his daughter for about $5,500, told police that it was meant to be a joke.
Berlin – German police say a 28-year-old man has admitted listing his daughter for sale on eBay but that he wanted it to be a joke.
The 40-day-old girl was listed on Ebay last week at a price of 5,000 euros ($5,500). Police in the western city of Duisburg raided the apartment and took the child into care. An investigation was opened on suspicion of human trafficking.
Police said on Monday that the father went to authorities on Friday and admitted that he was the one who made that post. He gave the investigators the cellphone he used to do so.
The parents, described by police only as “refugees,” have been taken in for questioning on suspicion of human trafficking.
